About Me

I'm Ashish Tandon, a Product Manager, Agile Coach, and the founder of OpenPolicy.me. With years of experience in banking technology, agile product management, and academia, I’m driven by a commitment to making systems more accessible, transparent, and engaging. OpenPolicy.me is my vision to help everyday people understand and actively engage with the legislation that shapes our lives.

Why I Built OpenPolicy.me

OpenPolicy.me was built with a straightforward mission: to educate the public about the bills in Parliament, allowing everyone to be well-informed and make their own decisions about each piece of legislation. In a democratic society, citizens deserve easy access to clear, understandable information on policies and the opportunity to form their own opinions based on reliable knowledge. OpenPolicy.me aims to make the legislative process accessible and approachable, empowering users to engage in shaping our collective future.

A Platform for Public Education and Engagement

OpenPolicy.me has two primary functions: education and engagement.

1. Education Through AI: OpenPolicy.me leverages AI to help people understand even the most complex legislation. Users can engage directly by asking questions like, “How does this impact me?”, “Can you explain this as if I were five?”, or even “Explain this to me in farming terms.” These features make legal information relatable and relevant to individuals across all backgrounds and education levels.

2. Legislative Feedback for Representatives: OpenPolicy.me also serves as a bridge between the public and their elected officials, enabling users to provide direct feedback on bills and policies. This feedback allows representatives to consider public sentiment while making decisions, helping them understand how proposed policies resonate with their constituents.

Additionally, OpenPolicy.me provides a directory of representatives for each constituent, allowing users to contact their representatives directly when necessary. This app is designed to foster a closer, more accountable relationship between the public and their government.

Neutrality and Openness to Collaboration

I created OpenPolicy.me with no political agenda and without affiliation to any political party. I’m just a person who wants to make our democratic process more transparent, accessible, and engaging for all. I welcome any ideas, insights, and collaboration from people who share this vision. Together, we can continue to grow and improve OpenPolicy.me.
